Yiota Theofanus Biography |
|||
Yiota was born and raised in the island of Cyprus and came to the U.S.A. as a bride in 1960. Lived in N.Y. till 1989 and then retired to Florida with her husband. Her interest in painting started in 1994 when without any training she began to experiment with her 3 year old granddaughter’s $1.99 watercolors. Her natural talent and inner peace she experienced when painting encouraged her to develop her own style. Her favorite subject when she started was flowers and later on expanded to landscapes, still life, and more. Yiota had her first public exhibit at her home, where many of her paintings were sold. Later she became a member of the Art Association of Tarpon Springs, Florida, where her paintings are exhibited in hospitals, municipal buildings, banks, libraries and different art shows. Walking through her home is an exciting adventure in watercolors. Her technique is reflected in all her work whether is flowers, landscapes, seascapes or still life. Yiota is a member of the Greek Orthodox Church in Tarpon Springs, NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and the PanCyprian Association of Florida.
